Christopher Chung

Bassoonist — New York City & Taipei

Christopher Chung is the principal bassoonist of the Evergreen Symphony Orchestra, appointed in 2026 by Jaap van Zweden. He has appeared as guest principal bassoon with the Baltimore, Atlanta, and Princeton Symphony Orchestras, and as guest musician with the Metropolitan Opera, Boston Symphony, New Jersey Symphony, and Los Angeles Chamber Orchestras, as well as the Berkshire Bach Society. Summer engagements include the Tanglewood Music Center, Edinburgh International Festival, and the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America. He can be heard on recordings held in the Library of Congress, on Epidemic Sound, and in numerous independent films.

As a soloist, Christopher has performed with the Mid-Atlantic Symphony, Kontrapunktus Baroque Orchestra, and the Colburn Orchestra. He is the 2nd Prize winner of the 2025 Elizabeth Loker International Concerto Competition.

An enthusiastic chamber music collaborator, Christopher is the 3rd Prize winner of the 2022 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition as a member of Sonarsix (woodwind quintet & piano). He has been presented by La Jolla Music Society, Music from Angel Fire, Colburn Chamber Music Society, and the California Club.

Originally from New York City, Christopher received his Bachelor of Music from the Colburn School, where he studied under Richard Beene, before pursuing further studies at the Juilliard School as a student of Judith Leclair.
